As we wrote about last March, rare and collectible postage stamps tend to retain their value, even through times of serious economic hardship when stock markets and investments plummet.
With the recent financial crises dominating the fearsome headlines in American (and world) financial news outlets, many are facing an increasingly more opaque reality of economic hardship that has been materializing for months. But if you have any rare stamps or other valuable collectibles, hang on to them! They may be the only thing you own that is worth anything soon.
For the first time ever, Ireland and Spain will jointly issue two new stamps, which feature dancing. According to some reports the exact release date is November 8; the official Spanish postal site’s PDF of their 2008 catalog says November 7.
The two stamps will feature flamenco and Irish dance. The flamenco stamp will have a face value of €0,60 (60 eurocents) while the Irish dance will be €0.78. They will be sold in blocks of two; a total of 500,000 sheets will be printed.
(Note: We looked all over for some scans or early pictures but they don’t seem to exist yet on either the AnPost site or Correos, nor on any of the scant news pages about this unusual issue.)
We are starting a new contest on September 24, 2008, that will run for three weeks. We are giving away $25 to someone who places a link to Europe-Stamps.com on their site or blog. To participate, all you have to do is get your custom link from our contest page and add it somewhere on your site.
If you have a blog, you can write a post about us and add the link in the post. You can also add the link to your “Links” or “Blog Roll” list. All participating sites will also receive “points” for visitors; more points mean a higher chance of winning the $25 drawing. Although the contest’s start date is September 24, you can enter at any time. It only takes one point to win!
Have a look at the contest page for more details and to get your link. Good luck!
